Whittemore Leads R-MC Softball To Sweep at Mary Washington

Two years ago, she was leading Patrick Henry to the 5A State Tournament.

Today, Candace Whittemore (below, file photo) is the unmistaken ace, and leader, of #15 Randolph-Macon as the Yellow Jackets have won 18 of their first 20 games.

Thursday, Whittemore's big season continued, taking a perfect game into the seventh inning before settling for a one-hit shutout in Randolph-Macon's 7-0 win in game one at Mary Washington. Whittemore would return late in game two to earn the save as fellow sophomore Maddie Holcomb went five innings for her first win of the season in a 4-2 victory.

Whittemore now has an 11-0 record with four saves, an ERA of 1.03 in 81 innings pitched.
