PLAYOFF FOOTBALL: Raiders, Hawks BOTH WIN....

Touchdown runs by Jalen Elliott, Clayton Cheatham and Brennan Gary led the Hanover Hawks in a wire-to-wire winning performance, knocking off the Churchland Truckers 28-13 tonight in the 1st Round of the Class 4A South playoffs. The Hawks move to 6-5 and advance to face a familiar foe, #3 seeded Lake Taylor, 35-7 winners over Nansemond River.  Hanover and Lake Taylor have scrimmaged each other each of the past two preseasons.

Atlee survived a sluggish offensive performance and fine Meadowbrook defensive play, taking full advantage of 4 Monarch turnovers and 15 penalties to advance in the Class 5A South Central Zone playoffs, 23-6 tonight. Reid McCoy and Lamont Stubbs had second half touchdown runs, to open up a game that was 7-6 at halftime.

The Raiders (10-1) will host Douglas Freeman (10-1), who survived Manchester 48-47 in triple overtime, in next Friday's Central Zone semifinals. The Rebels are the only team to defeat Atlee in 2013, a 24-14 victory at Freeman on September 20th.

We'll have kickoff times and additional information in the coming two days from the VHSL....
