Thursday's Action!
In Softball....
Allison Tingler's timely triple in the sixth put Patrick Henry on the board, while Paige Mitchell's defense and Emma Mitchell's pitching kept Atlee off the board, leading to a 2-0 victory for the Patriots in Ashland Thursday afternoon.
Lexi Cumbia had two hits for Atlee before injuring her shoulder sliding into third base. Atlee falls to 4-1 while Patrick Henry moves to 8-0.
Meanwhile, Lee-Davis spotted Hermitage a run, then took control en route to a 5-1 victory Thursday night in the West End. Casey Price led the way for the Confederates with three hits, while freshman Lauren McIntyre turned in another strong performance, scattering seven hits while shutting out the Panthers in the final six innings. Lee-Davis moves to 3-1 and begins Capital District play Friday night at home against Henrico.
In Baseball....
A BIG night for Atlee, as an eight-run explosion in the first inning paced the Raiders to a surprisingly easy 11-0 win over Patrick Henry in 5 innings. The Patriots, winners of four straight coming into the game, never got on track. Cam Maxey's three-run home run in the first helped his pitching performance as he was credited for the victory. Chop Pulisic also homered for Atlee, who stay unbeaten at 4-0. Patrick Henry falls to 6-2.

Softball Showdown Goes To Patriots
It was a unique set of circumstances that faced Lee-Davis and Patrick Henry as they took to the diamond Thursday afternoon in Ashland.
The Patriots were 4-0 and looking to do, again, what no other team was able to do in 2011, defeat Lee-Davis, who went on to win the state title.
The Confederates were taking the field for the first time in 2012, with their first two games postponed due to the death of Head Coach Jackie Davis' father. On top of that, they were missing star pitcher Kelly Heinz, out for the year after arm surgery.
With all that playing against Lee-Davis, they held their own against Patrick Henry for most of the game, until the Patriots broke open for four runs in the bottom of the sixth to go on to win 6-1.
Emma Mitchell scattered five hits and struck out eight, giving up her first earned run of the year in the top of the seventh, but by then, the game was in hand. Mitchell worked hard for the victory, throwing 120 pitches.
Sam Moore homered in the sixth, while Allison Tingler went four for four and scored two runs.
The Patriots (3-0, 5-0) return to Colonial District action Friday afternoon at 4:30pm against John Marshall. Lee-Davis (0-1) hosts Deep Run in another tough out-of-district test Monday at 6pm.

PH Sweeps Hermitage and Tuesday Scores!
Paige Mitchell hit a bases loaded triple to break open a tight game, giving Patrick Henry an 8-0 win over Hermitage Tuesday evening, raising the Patriots softball record to 3-0 in the Colonial District, 4-0 overall. Madison Gilman had three hits for the Patriots, while Emma Mitchell struck out 12 Panthers en route to her fourth shutout in as many games.
The Patriots welcome Lee-Davis to Ashland Thursday afternoon. Patrick Henry is the only team to defeat Lee-Davis during the Confederates' 2011 State Championship season. Without pitcher Kelly Heinz, out for the season due to surgery on her pitching arm, Lee-Davis still returns with tremendous potency at the plate and pitching promise. This will be their first game of the year, having already had two games postponed (Matoaca and Hermitage) to later in the season.
Meanwhile, Kyle Palmer pitched a shutout gem leading Patrick Henry baseball to an important 3-0 win at Hermitage. The Patriots are now 2-1 in the Colonial, 3-1 overall. As several prognosticators had seen Patrick Henry battling with Hermitage in the middle of the Colonial District in 2012, the road victory is crucial for the Patriots if they want to challenge the upper echelon teams such as Deep Run and Douglas Freeman.

Mitchell Pitches Patriots To Opening Win
Emma Mitchell struck out ten and came within two strikes of a perfect game as the Patrick Henry softball team began the 2012 season with a 6-0 shutout on the road against Maggie Walker Governors School Tuesday afternoon.
The game was scoreless until the Patriots broke open for two runs in the sixth and four in the seventh. Madison Gilman had two hits, including a double, and Sam Moore belted a two-run triple in the seventh inning offensive outburst.
An infield single and a runner reaching by error were the only two blemishes on Mitchell's 89-pitch performance, both of which came with two outs in the seventh inning. Both runners were stranded as the Patriots go to 1-0 in the Colonial and overall.
They go out-of-district tomorrow at 6pm at Glen Allen.
