GAME OF THE WEEK: #7 Hanover 38, #8 Dinwiddie 27: Clayton Cheatham rushes for 167 and two touchdowns while Marcus Bazala rushes for 85 yards, also with two scores, as the Hawks shut down the Generals' offense in the fourth quarter to earn the road victory. Hanover is 1-0.

Lee-Davis 28, J.R. Tucker 10: Chase Mummau and Nathan Evans combine for over 300 yards rushing as the Confederates win their first season opener in fifteen years.

Patrick Henry 68, Caroline 34: The Patriots explode for their most prolific offensive output in eight years, winning their first season opener since 2006.

Atlee 52, Deep Run 13

Atlee pulls away in the second half as their defense stiffens and quarterback Rasharrd Harris throws for 327 yards and four touchdowns, rushing for a fifth, for a 52-13 opening night win over Deep Run Thursday.

The tenth-ranked Raiders improve to 1-0 and give them seven straight opening game wins as well as a seven-game winning streak over the Wildcats. Deep Run hasn't defeated Atlee since 2008.

Atlee will host Mills Godwin, who open their season Friday night against #5 Henrico, next Friday, in a game to be heard live on 102.9 FM WHAN and online at RVASportsNetwork.com on the "Game Of The Week", September 11th!

FIELD HOCKEY: Lee-Davis, Hanover Win On Rivalry Night

At the same time, at two locations, all four county field hockey teams were in action against each other in the first what will be many simultaneous "rivalry nights" now that Patrick Henry has joined Atlee, Hanover, and Lee-Davis in the Capital District.

In Mechanicsville, which just barely missed a torrential rainstorm which could have forced a postponement, Lee-Davis allowed an Atlee goal just two minutes into the match, then shut down the Raiders the rest of the way, taking a 3-1 victory to improve to 1-1. The Raiders, who lost to 5A power Gloucester last Tuesday in their season opener 9-0, falls to 0-2.

Lee-Davis was led by senior captain Lauren Wolfgang, who scored both the tying and go-ahead goals in a seven-minute stretch to give the Confederates the lead for good at 2-1 with 17:48 left in the first half. Ciarra Ashworth added an insurance goal in the second half.

Faith Anna scored the lone Raider goal.

Meanwhile, in Ashland, it was the Kane connection as Kora Kane scored twice, Keri Kane once as the Hawks improved to 2-0 with a 3-1 win at Patrick Henry.

Diana Sagal scored the Patriots lone goal with five minutes left in the match. Patrick Henry falls to 1-1.

The 2015 Field Hockey season gets underway later today as Patrick Henry travels to J.R. Tucker for 5pm match.

NOTE: All matches in volleyball and field hockey between Atlee and Deep Run originally scheduled for tonight have been pushed back. Boys volleyball at Deep Run and girls volleyball at Atlee are now set for Thursday at 7pm, while the field hockey match between Conference 11 rivals will now take place on October 8th.

Hawks Football Season Game and Pep Rally:  Hanover High School’s Varsity football team plays at Dinwiddie HS onSeptember 4^th at 7:00 PM.

• Students and parents can buy a combination round-trip bus ride/game ticket to the Dinwiddie game for $10 at Schedule Pick Up/Fee Payment nights. (Please note that only the combination tickets will be available during fee nights.)
• First 100 students to buy the combination ticket and bus ride will receive a Hawk t-shirt.

On September 1^st, HHS will bring in food trucks so that the Hawk community can purchase meals from 5:30 to 7:30 PM.  Bring a blanket and/or chair and join us for dinner prior to the 7:30 pep rally from some of Richmond’s top food truck vendors -Carytown Burgers & Fries, Bo Dillaz, and Cheezilla.  Come celebrate with the Hawks as we start another great school year!

TRAINING CAMP: Atlee

RVA Sports Network spent a cloudy Thursday afternoon at Atlee High School, watching the field hockey team in scrimmage action, while photographer Nick Liberante spent some time with the football team.

Coach Alyssa Farling's crew are looking to return to the 5A State Tournament after making their first-ever state appearance in 2014. Hayley Anna and Numa Rehmani head a talented returning core, and twelve rising freshmen are looking to make their mark for the Raiders.

For Coach Roscoe Johnson's football team, and all teams at Atlee, it's a new era, as the Raiders look to earn their fourth postseason appearance in the last five seasons. But this year, Atlee will play in the 5A North Region with Patrick Henry, having been moved from 5A South, Conference 11 to 5A North, Conference 16 in the offseason.

For all Raiders, the road to a state title will look different and feature different opponents, but the ultimate goal remains the same.
