WINTER STORM STATEMENT (Friday 12:30pm)

...WINTER STORM WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 10 AM EST
SUNDAY...

* AREAS AFFECTED: PIEDMONT OF CENTRAL VIRGINIA.

* HAZARDS: HEAVY SNOW...GUSTY WINDS.

* STORM TOTAL ACCUMULATIONS: 15 TO 20 INCHES OF SNOW...WITH
  LOCALLY 2 FEET POSSIBLE...ESPECIALLY OVER PORTIONS OF LOUISA
  AND FLUVANNA COUNTIES.

* TEMPERATURES: FROM THE UPPER 20S TO LOWER 30S.

* WINDS: NORTHEAST WINDS 10 TO 15 MPH TODAY...BECOMING NORTH AND
  INCREASING TO 15 TO 25 MPH WITH GUSTS UP TO 30 TO 35 MPH
  TONIGHT AND SATURDAY.

* TIMING: SNOW WILL OVERSPREAD THE AREA LATE THIS MORNING
  THROUGH MIDDAY...CONTINUING HEAVY AT TIMES THROUGH THIS
  EVENING BEFORE DIMINISHING IN INTENSITY BY SATURDAY MORNING.
  THE SNOW MAY OCCASIONALLY MIX WITH SLEET OR FREEZING RAIN LATE
  FRIDAY NIGHT OR SATURDAY MORNING. ADDITIONAL PERIODS OF SNOW
  ARE EXPECTED SATURDAY INTO SATURDAY NIGHT.

* IMPACTS: ROADS WILL QUICKLY BECOME SNOW COVERED AND HAZARDOUS.
  A SIGNIFICANT IMPACT TO TRAVEL AND SCATTERED POWER OUTAGES ARE
  EXPECTED FRIDAY INTO SUNDAY MORNING DUE TO HEAVY SNOW AND
  GUSTY WINDS.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A WINTER STORM WARNING FOR HEAVY SNOW MEANS SEVERE WINTER WEATHER
CONDITIONS ARE EXPECTED OR OCCURRING. SIGNIFICANT AMOUNTS OF SNOW
ARE FORECAST THAT WILL MAKE TRAVEL DANGEROUS OR IMPOSSIBLE. ONLY
TRAVEL IN AN EMERGENCY. IF YOU MUST TRAVEL...KEEP AN EXTRA
FLASHLIGHT... FOOD...AND WATER IN YOUR VEHICLE IN CASE OF AN
EMERGENCY.
