MONDAY PLAYOFF FINALS....

BASEBALL:

4A South Region Quarterfinal: Hanover 8, Jamestown 2 (Hawks advance to region semifinal Wednesday at 6pm at Nansemond River in Suffolk. The winner earns a regional final berth and a spot in the 4A State Tournament beginning June 13.)

5A North Region Quarterfinal: George Marshall 7, Patrick Henry 2 (Patriots season comes to an end with a record of 13-9.)

SOFTBALL:

County teams go 2-2 in tonight Region Quarterfinal Rounds, as Patrick Henry and Atlee move on, while Hanover and Lee-Davis see their seasons end.

Patrick Henry jumped to a 5-0 first inning lead and never looked back, pounding Tuscarora 11-1 in a 5A North Quarterfinal. Paige Mitchell had three hits, while senior Kendall Thomas had two hits, including a bases-clearing double in the first inning, on the way to a 5 RBI performance. Patrick Henry hosts Stone Bridge, who upset North Stafford tonight, in a Region Semifinal Wednesday night. The Patriots are 16-1.

Atlee survived a pitchers duel, scratching a run in the 9th inning, then holding off Matoaca for a 1-0 victory in the 5A South Quarterfinals. Casey Barrett singled home Cameron Hall for the game's only run in the top of the 9th for the extra inning victory. The Raiders will face Prince George in tomorrow's 5A South Semifinal, as the Royals knocked off Lee-Davis 3-1, ending the Confederates season at the region level for the third consecutive season. Lee-Davis finishes 16-6.

At Hanover, the Hawks completed two comebacks, but couldn't do it a third time, as they fell to Grafton in a ten-inning thriller 3-2. The game, in 4A South Quarterfinal play, saw Hanover overcome 1-0 and 2-1 deficits, the latter in the 8th inning. The Hawks finish the year at 14-3.

4A South Region Quarterfinal: Grafton 1, Hanover 0. (Hawks finish season 12-4-1.)
