RVA Sports Network Top 10 Memorable Events of 2014-15: The Prelude

A month has passed since the 2014-15 school year for both high schools and colleges have come to an end. After a chance to decompress and reflect on all the incredible action and accomplishments of Richmond-area teams, it's time to count down the Top 10 Memorable Events that were covered live, either via broadcast or on Twitter, by The RVA Sports Network during the season.

We first promoted this as the "Top 10 Games", but, as we compiled the list, we quickly saw a pattern develop. Several of our entries involved either two teams who engaged in multiple events, or one team created a memory in a series of games, thus, the change.

The only criteria is that RVA Sports Network had to either broadcast or live tweet for the event. This is different than our updates from other events via our incredible network of reporters. So, when you don't see LC Bird's third state football title, Monacan football's run to the 4A State Semis, Glen Allen baseball's first-ever state crown, Richard Bland College's NJCAA National Basketball Championship, the emergence of Thomas Dale track and field athlete Titiana Marsh, and two Mills Godwin state titles (girls tennis and boys soccer) on the list, that is why.

Here, now, is the Honorable Mention list for 2014-15, events covered live by RVASN:

--L.C. Bird goes to Hermitage, wins in 5A South Region Semifinal in Football
--Atlee Field Hockey clinches first State Tournament berth in school history
--State 2A Softball runner-up King William shuts out eventual 5A State Softball Champion Atlee as Kayla Huffman has dominating performance
--Varina boys basketball's run to the Conference 3 Tournament championship
--Lee-Davis girls volleyball finally ousting Atlee from the playoffs, paving the way for a run to the 5A State Semifinals
--Hanover basketball shocks rival Lee-Davis 72-71 on foul shots with no time remaining. Hanover outscored Lee-Davis 31-28 in a wild fourth quarter.
--The postseason run of Deep Run boys basketball, upsetting Highland Springs in the Conference 11 Tourney, then giving both Henrico and LC Bird huge scares.
--Patrick Henry inserting a freshman quarterback in Mechanicsville and winning the Tomato Bowl over Lee-Davis 17-14 for head coach Bryan Davis' first win at PH.
--Highland Springs and Atlee combine for 102 points as the Springers knock off the Raiders Halloween night 65-37.
--Randolph-Macon softball winning in its first-ever NCAA Tournament game in a wild extra inning affair over Ramapo College.
